Hocus Pocus 2 is getting its mojo on.

The much-anticipated sequel to the hit 1993 feature this week started shooting in Providence, R.I., according to The Hollywood Reporter, and has also signed Sam Richardson (The Tomorrow War) to play an undisclosed role alongside the witchy Sanderson Sisters.

To the delight of fans, all three stars of the original film–Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy (who was recently a guest at CT HorrorFest)–are reprising their memorable roles in this sequel that will see three young woman “accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem” and who then must somehow stop the “child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world,” according to the official synopsis.

Hocus Pocus 2–directed by Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip) from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo–is expected to air on Disney+ sometime in the autumn of 2022 (maybe close to Halloween?).

The movie reportedly lost $16 million overall for Disney, but built a considerable fan base through the years and has become something of a Halloween season staple.
