The Sanderson Sisters will be home in plenty of time for Halloween.
Hocus Pocus 2–the much-hoped-for sequel to the 1993 classic–will land on Disney+ Sept. 30, according to a report in Entertainment Weekly.
The Walt Disney Pictures production–directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo–will bring back Bette Midler as Winifred, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah, Kathy Najimy as Mary and Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson–in addition to newcomers Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo and Tony Hale.
Plot details have been under a Spell of Invisibility, but it is known that the sequel is set 29 years after the events of the original film, when “three high school students must work together to stop the Sanderson Sisters, who have returned to present-day Salem,” according to the logline.
The original Hocus Pocus--directed by Kenny Ortega from a screenplay by Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris–follows the villainous Sandersons, who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Mass. on Halloween night.
The film received mixed reviews and crashed and burned at the box office–possibly losing Disney around $16 million during its theatrical run–but has since become a Halloween fan-favorite through the years.
