The sequel–starring the returning Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy–is set 29 years after someone lit the infamous Black Candle and resurrected the 17th-Century sisters. “And they’re looking for revenge,” according to the synopsis.
Now, it falls to three high school students “to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.”
Hocus Pocus 2–directed by Anne Fletcher from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo–also stars Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Hannah Waddingham, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Lilia Buckingham, Froyan Gutierrez and Tony Hale.
The original Hocus Pocus–from director Kenny Ortega and screenwriters Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris–was a box office bomb (reportedly losing Disney a cool $16.5 million), but transformed into a Halloween cult classic over the years.
