HNN’s Coverage of The 2017 New York Toy Fair

by Sean McLaughlin

This past weekend, the Jacob Javits Center in New York City hosted the annual celebration of both kid and geek culture known as New York Toy Fair 2017.  All of the big boys in the world of plastic fun were on hand exhibiting the present and future of everything from action figures to VR entertainment (and everything in between).  Once again, our friends over at Action Figure Collectors ( have provided HNN with prime coverage of the event.  Check out their comprehensive coverage on their website, complete with videos on their YouTube channel (“AFCollectors”).

For the horror toy fan, there was plenty to be excited about this year.  Check out the pictures below for all of the existing and upcoming toy lines, sure to hit your local toy store in the near future!

Continuing to put their personal touches on some of the most beloved horror movie icons, NECA unveiled several new interesting pieces that will be hitting stores in the third and fourth quarters of 2017.  Along with incredibly detailed figures of Leatherface (from TCM III), Chucky, Jason (FT13: The Final Chaper), a new Freddy Krueger mold from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors also debuted.  It’s the 30th anniversary of that fine slasher film, after all.
But the gem of this year’s class may be the Ash puppet from Ash vs. Evil Dead, which will be available in the third quarter.  Ashy Slashy!
Oh…..and they also have a series of 2-packs coming out featuring Batman/Superman with Alien/Predator.  These figures are sick.  You’re welcome.

Mezco brought it as always, with their ever-expanding line of the amazing Living Dead Dolls leading the way.  Horror movie characters continue to be given the LDD treatment, with A Clockwork Orange now in the mix as well.  The highlight for me is the Dawn of the Dead 2-pack, featuring Flyboy and Plaid Shirt Zombie.  When there’s no more room in hell, the Living Dead Dolls will walk the earth!
But garnering even more buzz this year is the company’s spin on the classic Jack-in-the-Box toy….the Burst-A-Box.  Featuring a killer team of horror movie legends, these are sure to cause quite the stir at Spencer Gifts stores everywhere.

McFarlane Toys
Todd McFarlane is passionate about The Walking Dead toy line, and this year’s figures reflect that.  Scheduled to be available to the public this summer, the winner of this line has to be the Negan tee-shot pose (complete with Lucille).  Eeny meeny miney moe……

Factory Entertainment
A company known for it’s dead-on series of comic statues, Factory kills it with a lineup including Shaun of the Dead (yes!!!) and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Thanks again to Action Figure Collectors ( for the super coverage of the 2017 New York Toy Fair.

We at HNN are already looking forward to the 2018 convention!!!
