‘Hellions’ – Review

Synopsis: A teenager must survive a Halloween night from Hell when malevolent trick-or-treaters come knocking at her door.

Our Thoughts: ‘Hellions’ centers around a teen girl named Dora who finds out she is pregnant on Halloween, a real life nightmare to any teenage girl. However, when creepy, not-quite-human, trick-or-treaters start harassing her, the real nightmare begins. At first, it’s unclear if she’s hallucinating, or something supernatural is occurring.

As the night goes on, the film becomes highly stylized, with a purple hue overtaking everything, as Dora is terrorized in her own home by demonic children. I thought it was a nice touch, that set this Halloween horror story apart from others. The story unfolded in a totally unexpected and original way.

Chloe Rose is incredible as the traumatized Dora and I hope to see her do more work in the horror genre. Robert Patrick, who plays Officer Corman, is excellent as always. ‘Hellions’ is a terrifyingly surreal film that will haunt you long after it’s over. Refreshingly original, horror fans who enjoy their indie horror on the artsy side will not want to miss it.
