Not even Ridley Scott gets a hit every time at bat.
The acclaimed director behind such genre classics as Alien and Blade Runner this week had his s/f-horror series Raised by Wolves cancelled after two seasons on HBO Max, according to a report on Deadline.
The series–with Scott as executive producer and sometime-director–follows two androids charged with raising human children on a mysterious planet. Created by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), the show was produced by Scott Free Productions.
In the recently completed Season 2, android partners Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim)–and their six human children–join an atheistic colony on Kepler-22b. Meanwhile, “navigating this strange new society is only the start of their troubles,” according to the synopsis, “as Mother’s ‘natural child’ threatens to drive what little remains of the human race to extinction.”
There is some hope for fans of the show, however. Series star Salim tweeted that “we have a fully fleshed-out and planned storyline, a Goliath of a production team, incredible reception from critics and a community base that is so strong that it cannot be ignored.”
Salim added that Scott Free Productions and the creatives “are pushing for the show to be continued in other homes–sharing the reception and pull of the show to other storytellers.
