One of Ghostface’s old friends is coming back to town.
Hayden Panettiere will reprise her fan-favorite role of Kirby Reed in the next installment of the always-scary Scream franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Reed appeared back in 2011’s Scream 4 as a Woodsboro High School student (and huge horror fan), but it’s not yet known how the character will fit into the next film, which will start shooting next month for a theatrical release March 31, 2023.
This bit of casting news comes fast on the heels of learning that the “next generation” of Ghostface foes (and victims?) will return for the next Scream. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera will reprise their roles of sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter, along with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as twin siblings Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin.
The only hint dropped so far about the next movie’s storyline is that the survivors of the most recent Ghostface killings “leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
The fifth Scream went over big with critics and fans, raking in more than $140 million globally, bringing the total take for the franchise to a tidy $744 million worldwide.
