‘Hannibal’ Weekly Wrap Up – “The Great Red Dragon”
By Lynn Sorel
Synopsis: Hannibal has been imprisoned for three years at the Baltimore State Hospital when a new villain emerges in one Francis Dolarhyde. Jack reaches out to Will to help him track down the brutal serial killer.
Our Thoughts: This week we pick up three years after Hannibal was incarcerated, with the birth of the Red Dragon. Francis Dolarhyde is the new serial killer on the block, and he is definitely one messed up character.
Hannibal’s cell looks classy. However, what he sees in his imagination is even more exquisite. I’m glad he has his music and art, at least, while he’s locked up. Can you imagine if he was in a white room with nothing to do? That would be bad for everyone.
Chilton meets with Hannibal and brings up the “Tooth Fairy” as the subject of a book he’s writing. Hannibal and Francis develop a fascination for each other.
Will is back at home with his dogs. He’s now married and has a step child. Crawford goes to see him to ask for his help on the Tooth Fairy case. Of course, he ends up taking him up on his offer. Will gets back to his roots, investigating a crime scene and putting his mental powers to work.
Richard Armitage gives Ralph Fiennes (who starred in the 2002 ‘Red Dragon’ film) a run for his money with his extremely creepy performance as Dolarhyde. He was an excellent choice for the role.
The episode ends on a classic note, with Will going to see Hannibal in his cell. See you for “…And the Woman Clothed with the Sun,” next week, fannibals!
