Golden Globe Winner Joins Cast Of ‘Renfield’ Feature

Renfield’s dance card is filling up at a frightening pace.

Just yesterday Horror News Network reported that Nicolas Cage signed on to play Dracula in Universal’s upcoming violent horror/comedy Renfield. And now it has been learned, through a report on Deadline, that Nora Lum (known professionally as Awkwafina), a Golden Globe Award winner for The Farewell, has joined the growing cast in an undisclosed role.

Awkwafina was most recently seen in Marvel’s ShangChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the box office sensation that has earned–to date–more than $430 million worldwide.

As previously reported, Nicholas Hoult (Mad MaxFury Road) will play Renfield, the unhinged lackey of Count Dracula in the film directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War). The screenplay–which drew upon a story outline by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead)–was written by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty).

As horror fans know, R.M. Renfield first appeared in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula as an inmate in a lunatic asylum who was, in reality, a servant of the Vampire Lord. The character has already appeared in Nosferatu (1922) and Dracula (1931).
