A new horror collectible is casting a bright light over the Black Lagoon.
The Universal Monsters Creature from the Black Lagoon now is a six-inch glow-in-the-dark action figure from Jada Toys. Check out the photo array showing off the figure, courtesy of news.toyark.com, on this page.
The action figure–available now from Entertainment Earth for $29.99–includes two portraits, a swap-out hand, a fabric net, a harpoon gun and a fossilized creature hand.
Standing a little over six inches tall, the bright green translucent Gill-Man figure has 25 points of articulation–including double-jointed hands and knees, thigh and bicep swivels and multiple ball-jointed sections on the torso. With just a few minutes of light exposure, the figure glows when the lights are switched off.
The 1954 Universal classic Creature from the Black Lagoon–directed by Jack Arnold from a screenplay by Harry Essex and Arthur Ross–follows a group of scientists who encounter an amphibious humanoid in the waters of the Amazon. The Creature–also known as the Gill-Man–was played by Ricou Browning (a welcome CT HorrorFest guest back in 2016) underwater and by Ben Chapman on land.
The well-received 3-D film gave birth to two sequels–Revenge of the Creature (1955) and The Creature Walks Among Us (1956). The Gill-Man has appeared in the fewest movies of all the Universal Monsters, but still managed cameos in The Monster Squad (1987) and an episode of the ’60s TV series The Munsters.
