Did you hear the one about the ventriloquist’s dummy that couldn’t keep its mouth shut?
Felix–an innocuously titled horror flick from Highland Film Group–is set to start principal photography this spring with two lead actors who know their way around a scary story, according to a report on Screen Daily.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead and the upcoming Isle of the Dead) and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor) will star as father and son in the eerie film helmed by John Kissack (Everfall) and written by Casey Giltner (You Used to Be Beautiful).
Felix–produced by Joe Carnahan, Jayson Therrien and Kissack–follows Charlie (Ainsworth) and his best friend Jimmy as they try to make a movie, with dreams of becoming Hollywood directors.
When Charlie’s father (Morgan) finds an old ventriloquist’s dummy named Felix among his late mother’s belongings, Charlie and Jimmy cast it “as the creepy antagonist of their movie,” according to the logline.
But, through a series of sinister and disturbing events, “the family discovers that Felix has a mind of its own, and it’s up to Charlie and Jimmy to rid the family of this ominous force they’ve awakened.”
Highland Film Group chief executive Arianne Fraser called Felix a cross between Super 8 and Child’s Play, adding that the movie is “a nail-biting and suspenseful horror film.”
