Genre Screenwriters To Pen New Horror Thriller ‘Gnomes’

by Thomas Tuna

Sometimes horror comes in small packages.

Gnomes–a new feature based on a horror short from Richard Raaphorst and Ruwan Heggelman–is in development from Sony Pictures and 21 Laps, according to a report on Deadline.

Brought on board this week to script the new film are Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, perhaps best known for their Ant-Man and the Wasp screenplay. Sony acquired the film rights to the project earlier this month.

Heggelman will direct the film, which has not yet revealed casting choices or plot details. The original short–also helmed by Heggelman from a script he wrote with Raaphorst and Jasper ten Hoor–follows a girl as she stumbles across a killer gnome tribe after being lured in by a crop of mysteriously glowing mushrooms.

The feature film is produced by Raaphorst, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine–with Emily Feher overseeing the project for 21 Laps.
