‘Gargoyles’ Being Developed As Disney+ Live-Action Series

The statues are coming to life…again.

The popular ’90s Disney animated Disney series Gargoyles is making a comeback several decades after last being on the small screen–and this time as a live-action series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project–in early development at Disney Branded Television–is the brainchild of James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Gary Dauberman (Annabelle), who will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer. There is no word at this early stage about casting or behind-the-camera talent.

The original Gargoyles animated series–created by Greg Weisman–ran for three seasons from 1994-1997, and followed a group of gargoyle statues that moved from a Scottish castle to modern-day New York City. Once in Manhattan, the statues awaken from a thousand-year-old spell and move to protect the city.
