The series that spotlights the famed fire-breathing Japanese prehistoric turtle kaiju–currently in production–does not yet have a debut date, but more storyline details have now been revealed.
The series–set in the summer of 1989–follows elementary school students Boko, Joe and Junichi whose lives are threatened as the kaiju Gyaos attacks Tokyo. As the monster sets its sights on them, another kaiju appears: Gamera. But suddenly, several other monsters show up, and Gamera fights back against all odds.
Gamera–last seen in 2006’s Gamera the Brave–was created by Daiei Films to compete with Toho’s Godzilla, debuting in 1965’s Gamera, the Giant Monster.
Unlike the earthbound Godzilla, Gamera is able to fly, using “jets” that can be ignited from its limb holes when it retracts its legs into its shell. Up, up and away.
