Mike Flanagan is working miracles again with Midnight Mass.
The seven-episode Netflix horror series–slated to debut Sept. 24–is based on an original story by writer/director Flanagan, as reported by syfy.com, and the first full trailer on this page offers a good look at the horrors in store for a small island community.
Flanagan–working again with producer Trevor Macy–has already brought The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor to Netflix, as well as helming such features as Oculus, Hush and Doctor Sleep. Fans are hoping for the same sort of spine-tingling success with Midnight Mass.
The series, set on Crockett Island, follows two new arrivals. A disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) has just returned home from the big city; and the other, Fr. Paul (Hamish Linklater), is the new charismatic priest who seems to want to bring something miraculous and different to the local citizens.
Miracles happen in the town, but not all of them are what the people want. Something dark is beginning to stir among the healing and wondrous works.
The Intrepid Pictures series also stars Kate Siegel, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Alex Essoe and Annarah Cymone.
