Free Comic Book Day: Horror Comics – May 3, 2014

By: Stephanie Shamblin Gray

For anyone that doesn’t know, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is the first Saturday in May each year when participating comic shops give away a selection of free comics. As usual, there are a few must have horror titles in the mix, so make sure to visit your local comic shop and support!

This year there are 10 titles that horror fans will want to pick up! That’s likely more than your shop will let you have so bring a friend and plan to share. One of the must-have items is “V Wars” from IDW. If you’ve been to any of the recent comic conventions, you may have picked up an exclusive convention copy of the first issue. For FCBD, IDW is offering issue zero. “All You Need is Kill” is offered by Viz Media. This is the basis for a soon-to-be-released movie starring Tom Cruise under the name of “Edge of Tomorrow.” Many of the major publishers have something to appeal to horror fans so see the list of horror titles and their synopsis below to prepare.

Many of the titles available for FCBD are all-ages and quite a few are specifically for children. A complete list of titles can be found here: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/1/27/981.

Visit the FCBD site to read more about the event and find a comics retailer near you: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/1/27/992. Many retailers also have appearances by local artists and creators, so don’t miss out!
