Fox Gets Rights to Remake ‘Escape From New York’

by Lynn Sorel

Fox won the rights to remake ‘Escape From New York’ in a bidding competition. The Picture Company, owned by Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, will be producing the remake. John Carpenter is going to have creative influence over the project as an executive producer. Fox hopes to launch a new franchise starting with this new film. There have been attempts to remake ‘Escape’ in the past, but never with John Carpenter involved until now. Rumors have been flying that Charlie Hunnam or Chris Hemsworth will play Snake Plissken, but there is not even a script at this point and it’s hopeful thinking on the part of fans. The film is in very early developmental stages.
