The new kids on the block are back for more mayhem.
The sixth entry in the ever-popular Scream franchise is a little more than a year away, and the new generation introduced in the last film will be represented, according to a report in Deadline.
The next Scream (or whatever the title ends up being)–again directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick–will bring back Melissa Barrera (as Sam), Jasmin Savoy Brown (as Mindy), Mason Gooding (as Chad) and Jenna Ortega (as Tara) when filming starts next month. The film is slated for a theatrical release March 31, 2023.
This Scream–according to a very brief logline–follows the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they “leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
That quartet will join legacy star Courteney Cox (as Gale Weathers) in the cast. Cox confirmed in March that she will reprise her role in the next film, adding that she had the script and was “excited to read it.” With this latest news, can Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott be far behind? Stay tuned.
The fifth Scream was a hit with critics and fans, earning more than $140 million worldwide, bringing the franchise’s total take to more than $744 million globally.
