The monster hunting business is about to pick up.
The Witcher–the hit horror-fantasy Netflix series–has started shooting its much-anticipated third season, and a quartet of new faces will dot the landscape of the Continent this time around, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Joining the returning trio of Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Princess Ciri) will be Robbie Amell (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Meng’er Zhang (Shang–Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Hugh Skinner (Poldark) and Christelle Elwin (Bloods).
Amell’s character Gallatin is described as a “born fighter whose loyalty to his people ultimately leads him on a collision course with Francesca over power.” Zhang will play Milva, “a fierce and talented huntress with archery skills. Those who cross her do so at their peril.”
Skinner plays Prince Radovid, “younger brother to King Vizimir who surprises with how incisive he can be in matters of politics.” Elwin is Mistle, “a member of The Rats, a gang of misfit teenagers who steals from the rich–she is street smart and out for revenge.”
Season 3 finds monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent trying to capture Ciri, but Geralt is determined to protect her and his newly reunited family. Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, “where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers,” according to the synopsis.
Instead, they find they have landed in “a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic and treachery. They must fight back and put everything on the line–or risk losing each other forever.”
The Witcher–led by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich–is based on the book of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. The third season does not yet have a debut date.
