Godzilla Minus One–from writer/director Takahashi Yamazaki–will hit theaters Dec. 1, and will be the 33rd Japanese-language Godzilla entry and the 37th installment overall. It’s also the first live-action Japanese movie to spotlight the legendary lizard since 2016’s Shin Godzilla.
Set in post-war Japan, the film will again show that Godzilla is “a terrifying and overwhelming force,” according to Toho president Koji Ueda. In the movie, the country is “devastated by the war and now faces a new threat in Godzilla–plunging the land into a negative state.”
