“Bring me the priest.”
The first disturbing trailer for The Pope’s Exorcist–a supernatural thriller from Screen Gems–has landed before its theatrical release April 14. Check out the violent clip on this page.
The film–based on the real-life exploits of Fr. Gabriele Amorth–is directed by Julius Avery from a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos (with revisions and additions by Chuck MacLean). Rated R, the feature contains “violent content, language, sexual references and some nudity.”
The cast includes Oscar winner Russell Crowe as Fr. Amorth, Ralph Ineson as the voice of the demon, Alex Essoe, Daniel Zovatto, Franco Nero, Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney.
The film relates the tribulations of Fr. Amorth, the renowned Italian priest who reportedly performed more than 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican.
The screenplay draws on the priest’s bestselling memoirs–An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories–to bring the demon-battling horrors to cinematic life.
