First Peek At HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ Series Has Arrived

A few crumbs is better than nothing.

The first tantalizing glimpse of HBO’s adaptation of Naughty Dog’s popular The Last of Us video game is here and, even though it’s not the trailer fans have been waiting for, the video does show some quick scenes of the show and a taste of the action to come. Check out the promotional video for the upcoming HBO Max shows on this page.

The 10-episode first season of the series–led by executive producer and writer Craig Mazin–is expected to hit HBO Max early next year, but no exact debut date has yet been announced.

The series follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic America. Gabriel Luna plays Joel’s kid brother Tommy, an ex-soldier.

Recurring characters include Marlene (Merle Dandridge), the head of the resistance movement known as the Fireflies; Perry (Jeffrey Pierce), a rebel in the quarantine zone; and Tess (Anna Tory), Joel’s smuggler partner.

In The Last of Us video game–released for PlayStation 3 in 2013–players use firearms and other weapons to defend against hostile humans and cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated fungus. The game has won several Game of the Year awards from gaming publications, critics and game award ceremonies.
