The R-rated upcoming remake of the 1984 cult classic The Toxic Avenger does not yet have a theatrical release window, but it will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Tx. from Sept. 21-28. A first-look image can be seen on this page.

The film–from writer/director Macon Blair–stars Peter Dinklage in the title role, Kevin Bacon as the villain, Jacob Tremblay as Toxie’s son, Taylour Paige as the female lead, Jonny Coyne as a “shadowy criminal figure” and Sarah Niles as a “corrupt city official”. Rounding out the cast are Elijah Wood and Julia Davis.

The movie follows Winston Gooze, a hapless janitor who stumbles into a vat of toxic waste and is transformed into “a monster who sets out to do good–and to get back at the people who have wronged him.” Nice work if you can get it.

The original film–directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman from a screenplay by Kaufman and Joe Ritter–has become a cult favorite through the years–and has spawned three sequels, an animated TV show and a comic book series.
