The Walkers will shamble into the new year.

The 11th and final season of the AMC zombie mega-hit The Walking Dead comes to Netflix next week–a little bit earlier than expected, according to a report on comicbook.com.

The final episodes in the long-running show start streaming on Netflix Jan. 6, 2023, and should serve as a proper appetizer for horror fans looking forward to the upcoming spinoffs starring Andrew Lincoln’s Rick, Danai Gurira’s Michonne, Norman Reedus’ Daryl, Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan.

In describing how the leading characters would deal with how The Walking Dead ended its successful run, showrunner Angela Kang said the storytellers “talked about how far these characters have come. Where do we think they should land?”

Kang acknowledged that “we didn’t know exactly when the story was going to end when we started. But people joined along the way, and we kind of figured it out.”

The final 24-episode season of TWD premiered on AMC Aug. 22, 2021 and wrapped up last month. Developed by Frank Darabont, the series is based on the comic books by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.

This season adapts material from issues No. 175-193 of the comic book, and focuses on the group’s encounter with the Commonwealth–a network of communities that has more than 50,000 survivors. The last shows also deal with the group’s confrontation with the Reapers, a faction of hostile survivors.
