The dead have never been more alive.
AMC’s The Walking Dead series may be wrapping up its long, successful run this year, but the spinoffs and offshoots have lives of their own. The latest–Dead in the Water–is a special that’s a spinoff of a spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, according to a report on comicbook.com.
Dead in the Water–from executive producers Ian Goldberg, Andrew Chambliss and Scott M. Gimple–will hit AMC+ April 10. The special–written by Jacob Pinion–stars Nick Stahl as the character Riley from the second half of Season 6 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Riley, as explained in the special’s logline, is the “submarine weapons officer who helped Teddy (John Glover) fire the warheads that turned Texas into Ground Zero of the nuclear-zombie apocalypse.”
The show “rewinds to the eve of the apocalypse, when a conflicted officer and new father (Stahl) fights for survival as the apocalypse hits. The USS Pennsylvania becomes a nuclear-fueled and walker-filled death trap with no way out.”
Goldberg said the show tells a “really cool story of how (the submarine crew) we met in Fear the Walking Dead episode 615 met that fate and a few other pieces of mythology. I won’t say too much beyond that, but I think it will be really cool.”
Season 7 of Fear the Walking Dead will debut on AMC+ April 17 before hitting AMC April 24.
