Who among us can look into the face of death?
The remake of the graphic (and controversial) 1978 horror film Faces of Death has started shooting in Louisiana, with a new cast member signing on for the bumpy ride this week, according to a report on Deadline.
Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You) has joined the previously announced Josie Totah, Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery and Charlotte Emma Aitchison (aka Charli XCX) in the cast.
The Legendary Entertainment reboot is directed by Daniel Goldhaber from a screenplay he wrote with Isa Mazzei. The producers include Susan Montford, Don Murphy and Cory Kaplan.
The new film will follow a female moderator of a YouTube-like website whose job is to “weed out offensive and violent content,” but who stumbles across a group “that’s recreating the murders from the original film,” according to the synopsis.
The original Faces of Death–from writer/director John Alan Schwartz–follows pathologist Francis B. Gross (Michael Carr), a host who presents gruesome deaths caught on tape. Banned in several countries and panned by many critics, the movie still drew crowds–raking in $35 million worldwide on a budget of just $450,000.
