Exploring the Possibilities of Funko’s Horror Mystery Minis Series 3

by: Rob Caprilozzi

There’s no doubt that Funko has hit the figure jackpot when it comes to their Pop! Vinyl and Mystery Mini figures. Just a few years ago when the initial set was released, the horror genre received a stylized makeover with these terribly cute mini-figures of the most iconic characters from the scary movies. The stylized vinyl figures measure around 2 1/2-inches tall and come in a mystery box which does not allow you to see which character is inside the box.

There have been two sets of horror mystery mini’s released so far.

Series 1 consists of:
Billy (Saw), Sam (Trick R Treat), Chucky (Childs Play), Ghostface (Scream), Michael Myers (Halloween), Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Captain Spaulding (House of 1,000 Corpses), Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs), Ash (Army of Darkness), Pennywise (It), and Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

Series 2 consists of:
Cthulhu, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Crow, David (The Lost Boys), Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, Pinhead (Hellraiser), Shaun, Ed (Shaun of the Dead), Werewolf (American Werewolf in London), Alfred Hitchcock, Nosferatu, The Fly, and Gremlin.

Each series has a few rare figures which makes the hunt even more exciting. With two very successful series released, we sat down and compiled a list of what may be in store for series 3.

The following figures already exist in POP! Vinyl format, so making the move to mystery mini seems logical:
Wolf Man
Bride of Frankenstein
Phantom of the Opera

That gives us seven new figures to the Mystery Mini line. Here are some others that we think may be Funko’s next move:
Vincent Price
Hitchcock was a nice surprise in the last batch. If they follow that up we think they should go with Price.

When it comes to slashers, he’s a biggie they do not yet have. Imagine how COOL that hook would look.

Because they have Billy, this seems like a no-brainer.

Can you imagine Jack holding an axe? We can. NEED!

This would make for a great figure and would fill the need for smaller figures issued in the past.

With over a half dozen movies this character deserves to be included. As with Damien, he would also fill the need for smaller figures.

This is another deserving character. Carrie would help balance out the male heavy set.

Norman Bates (Psycho)
Norman is an icon and hopefully the next set will have him.

Those are the 15 characters that we think will make the list for Series 3.

Here are a few characters just on the fringe that didn’t make the list that we would LOVE to see in series 4:
Samara (The Ring)
Otis (The Devil’s Rejects)
Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
H.P. Lovecraft
Edgar Allan Poe
George Romero
Ben (Night of the Living Dead)

Well, there you have it. Our picks for the series 3 Funk Mystery Mini’s. Whatever the third set brings we know for sure that fans will be all over it!
