As if conjured from the pages from the Necronomicon itself, the Evil Dead series is one that keeps coming back to life and this time, according to star Bruce Campbell, filmmaker Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) will be writing and directing the next entry in the series titled Evil Dead Now.
In an interview with Empire, Campbell said, “From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating. You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic.” He added: “We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”
For the time being, it looks like Ash Williams will not wield his double-barrel shotgun or chainsaw for a hand but, similar to the 2013 remake of the same name, a new female hero will be taking on the deadites.
Beginning with the very low budget film Within the Woods as a proof of concept to potential investors, director Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, who played main character Ashley J. Williams, started what has been one of the most fan-favorite franchises with The Evil Dead that has spanned decades with four feature films, a TV series, several comic books and video games.
