The undead will rise on the big screen–not HBO Max–next year.
Evil Dead Rise–the latest entry in the classic horror film franchise–will get the Silver Screen treatment next year, according to a report on Deadline. The film was expected to debut on HBO Max, but strong preview screenings apparently changed those plans, and it will now land in theaters April 21, 2023.
Bruce Campbell–a franchise mainstay and a producer of the new film–couldn’t agree more. He has said he is “very excited” about the film. “It’s dark,” he said. “A very adult Evil Dead movie. It’s pretty tough and hard-hitting. It’s going to creep you out.”
In Evil Dead Rise–from writer/director Lee Cronin–“a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising her three children in a cramped Los Angeles apartment. But the reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building,” according to the synopsis.
This discovery leads to “flesh-possessing demons–and thrusts Beth into a primal battle for survival, as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
Evil Dead Rise stars Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie and Lily Sullivan as Beth, along with Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.
