‘Evil Dead Rise’ Trailer Only Teases The Film’s Horrors

You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

The first graphic trailer for Evil Dead Rise–the latest entry in the horror film franchise–dropped yesterday, and featured several gory images sure to please fans of the series. But, according to writer/director Lee Cronin, that’s just the tip of the bloody iceberg.

Cronin–during a recent interview with Empire–discussed some of the trailer’s more unnerving scenes. “The scalp rip is definitely one of my favorites,” he said. “It burns into the eyes a little bit. But there’s a lot more to come. You’re really only getting 10 percent of the experience.”

Another disturbing scene–involving a cheese grater being placed against someone’s leg–is what Cronin called “the ‘leg-guine’ scene. Those graters always terrify me for cooking–it seems so easy that you could lose some knuckles.”

Evil Dead Rise–landing in theaters April 21–follows Beth (Lily Sullivan) as she visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) in Los Angeles. But that soon goes south as the sisters discover “a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building,” according to the synopsis.

Things get truly macabre when hordes of “flesh-possessing demons” embroil Beth in a battle for survival, as she faces “the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The ensemble includes Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.
