The blood–and the cash–still flows.

Evil Dead Rise continued to slash a productive path through the domestic box office scene in its second weekend, raking in $12.3 million from 3,400 theaters, according to a report on Deadline. This second-place finish (to Super Mario Bros Movie) brings the horror pic’s haul to $44.5 million so far.

The film–written and directed by Lee Cronin–follows Beth (Lily Sullivan) as she visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) at her Los Angeles apartment. But this trip to the West Coast will not end well.

The sisters soon discover a mysterious book hidden deep in the apartment building–a book that unleashes a horde of demons that forces Beth to fight for her life, as she faces “the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The cast of the R-rated feature is rounded out by Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.
