Eli Roth’s ‘Thanksgiving’ Lines Up Patrick Dempsey As Lead

This bird is ready to get stuffed.

Thanksgiving–an Eli Roth-led feature-length take on the mock trailer he made for 2007’s Grindhouse–is creeping closer to reality, as Patrick Dempsey (Scream 3) is circling the lead role, according to a report on Deadline.

The new Thanksgiving feature–from Spyglass Media Group–is expected to start shooting next month, with no release window yet announced. Roth sits in the director’s chair, working off Jeff Rendell’s screenplay. Roth and Roger Birnbaum are producing.

The original trailer appeared as part of Grindhouse, a horror double-feature–written and directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino–that combined Rodriguez’ Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof.

The trailer is described as a “gory teaser about a pseudo movie in which a slasher makes his own carving board out of the inhabitants of a Massachusetts town where the people make an annual fuss over turkey day.” Roth even appeared in one memorably bloody scene–when he was separated from his head.
