We’ve got a list of 12 new releases this week, fiends. The collections look especially promising. The entire Paranormal Activity (so far) collection is coming out on DVD. There’s also the Jaws collection to look out for. Lastly, but certainly not the least, is the Blacula double feature coming to Blu-ray this week from the fine folks at Scream Factor. As always, pleasant viewing, folks.
Blood Car (2007)

In the all-too-foreseeable future, gas prices approach $40 a gallon, causing some Americans to abandon their vehicles and others to seek alternate sources of fuel. When a mild-mannered schoolteacher (Mike Brune) invents an experimental engine that thrives on blood, he attracts the attention of two women who vie for his affection: Denise (Katie Rowlett), the proprietress of a butcher stand, and Lorraine (My Girl’s Anna Chlumsky) who runs a rival veggie stand in a grim urban landscape. But Archie’s need for speed soon surpasses his body’s ability to regenerate fluids, so he takes desperate measures to satisfy the Blood Car’s thirst. Veering between wicked social satire and outbursts of hardcore gore, Blood Car lives up to its reputation as an “audacious, utterly bonkers and downright sick claret-drenched black comedy” (Time Out London).

Years passed… The filmmakers decided to have fun with the movie and have given it a new edit and super-neat-o 1978, Late-Night Drive-in Grindhouse effect, including the gritty Grindhouse sound. Added to the fun, guest filmmakers join director Jeff London in a hilarious new Audio Commentary with voice-overs, jokes, ad-libs, and whatever they can think of. While babysitting at a remote cabin, Sarah’s dark past overcomes her with violent visions and tormenting voices, resulting in a dangerous psychotic break.
A group of friends trespass on private property in order to hike a hard-to-access trail…but now they’re deep in the woods where no one can save them from a maniacal killer.
A cabin vacation sounds like lots of fun to a group of young adults looking for an escape. But little fun will be had now that one of the boys has summoned up a dead spirit with a killer agenda.

In the same way Hank hunts down big bucks, this creature, wolf-like and thirsty for blood, stalks prey of the human variety. Hank quickly learns that the legend of the Dogman is no myth and now, as his community suffers from its vicious, bacteria-infested wounds, this down-home hillbilly must prove that in these woods, he’s the top dog.
Spring break means sun, fun and plenty of partying for a group of friends. But their road trip to the coast is cut short when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. They go to a nearby hunting lodge for help, but before they know it, the animals on the walls aren’t the only ones that are dead.
