Could things get even stranger?
Ross and Matt Duffer–the brothers behind the popular Netflix series Stranger Things–apparently have been giving some thought to life beyond their successful show. Can anyone say “spinoff?”
Volume 1 of the much-anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things will start on Netflix in a little over a month–May 27–with Volume 2 slated to kick off July 1. And now, the Duffer Brothers recently told SFX Magazine they “have some ideas” for future projects.
In terms of a possible continuation of Stranger Things–or a spinoff–Matt Duffer said the ideas would need to be “exciting enough that we feel the pull of wanting to do it. That’s why we’re being careful about whether we move forward with it.”
His brother added that the key is “that it needs to feel like it is its own distinct thing–not that we’re just retreading what we’ve already done.” But, striking an optimistic note, he said, “I do think we have something that could be pretty exciting. So, we’ll see.”
But, before that, Season 4 of Stranger Things starts six months after the battle at Starcourt Mall (the finale of Season 3). “Struggling with the aftermath, the friends are separated for the first time,” according to the logline. “And navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier.”
And then, “a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that–if solved–might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
Stranger Things–which debuted on Netflix in 2016–has already received 39 Primetime Emmy Award nominations (with six wins) and four Golden Globe Award noms.
