“He’s pretty damn terrifying.”

A new behind-the-scenes featurette has dropped that shows how filmmakers created their vision of Dracula for The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and that creative process and comments from cast and crew can be seen on this page.

The Universal/Dreamworks horror pic–which hits the big screen this Friday, Aug. 11–stars Javier Botet as the iconic vampire, an actor that director Andre Ovredal said is “able to do things that are superhuman.” And some of those abilities are on view in this featurette.

Joining Botet in the cast are Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Lima Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jo Jo Briones, Stefan Kapicic and Nikolai Nikolaeff.

The feature–helmed by Ovredal from a screenplay by Bragi Schut, Stefan Ruzowitsky and Zak Olkewicz–draws from a single chapter in Bram Sroker’s classic Dracula, and follows the merchant ship Demeter on its journey to London–bearing 50 unmarked wooden crates. And one of those crates holds a special stowaway.

During the sea voyage, the crew is stalked by “a merciless presence,” and when the ship reaches England’s shore, it is a “charred, derelict wreck–with no trace of the crew.”
