Dracula Film ‘Mina Harker’ Sent Back To The Graveyard

by Thomas Tuna

This is one vampire movie that got the full treatment–garlic, sunlight and a stake through the heart.

Mina Harker–a proposed Dracula-inspired film from Blumhouse Productions and Miramax–is dead-on-arrival just a few weeks before shooting was scheduled to start, according to a report on Deadline.

The movie–with director Karyn Kusama and screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi already in place–will not go forward, according to sources, due to Miramax taking a hike over creative differences with the filmmaker.

The film–set in contemporary Los Angeles–was to spotlight Mina Harker (played by Emmy Award winner Jasmine Cephas Jones), playing opposite the Dracula character who would have gone (for some unknown reason) by the name Vladimir. The script is said to have been a faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel.

The movie’s producers included Kusama, Hay, Manfredi, Jason Blum and Bill Block. Bea Sequeira was on board as executive producer.
