And the children shall lead them.
Heart Land–a new post-apocalyptic zombie thriller that recently started filming in New Zealand and Canada–has brought genre veteran Donald Sutherland on board for the horror ride, according to a report in Variety.
Sutherland–fresh off his role in the small-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Mr. Harrigan’s Phone–will play Rick in this new film, the grandfather of Jonah, a character who has not yet been cast.
Heart Land–directed by David Carson (Unstoppable) from a screenplay by Matthew A. Colllins (All That Glitters)–is described as being a cross between 28 Days Later and Lord of the Flies. The brief logline sets the film in a world where the adults have fallen victim to a deadly plague–but the children are immune, leaving them to battle to acquire resources and survive in a brutal world.
Carson called the Rick character “the emotional heart and soul of the film, and I cannot imagine anyone but Donald Sutherland playing him. I know he will bring depth and gravitas to the role and to the movie. This role demands an exceptionally detailed, imaginative and visceral performance.”
