Nice doggy (or whatever you are).
NECA has added to its collectible line from John Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing with a Deluxe Ultimate seven-inch scale Dog Creature figure. Check out the photos–courtesy of Toyark–on this page.
In the horror-s/f film, the dog gives viewers the first inkling of what the shape-shifting “thing” is capable of–as it starts to mutate and attempts to assimilate other dogs, replacing them with imitations.
The Dog Creature figure features interchangeable heads, tendrils, spider legs and a lashing tongue. There’s also a hairless version of the dog, stripped down to an oozing mass, with tendrils and tentacles. A set of monstrous hands can also be attached to the figure.
The collectible–priced at $60–is available for pre-order from Entertainment Earth and Big Bad Toy Store. A September release is planned.
The Thing–directed by Carpenter from a screenplay by Bill Lancaster–is based on the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella Who Goes There? The storyline follows a group of American researchers in Antarctica who encounter the titular Thing–a parasitic alien life form that assimilates and imitates other organisms.
