A mother is one of life’s constants…until she isn’t.
A new Irish horror film, You Are Not My Mother, had its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews, and will hit theaters and VOD March 25. Check out an eerie trailer and poster for the movie–courtesy of collider.com–on this page.
The film–the feature debut for writer/director Kate Dolan that stars Hazel Doupe, Carolyn Bracken, Ingrid Craigie and Paul Reid–is set, appropriately enough, the week before Halloween.
As the synopsis relates, the horror starts when Angela–the bedridden mother of a teen girl named Char–goes missing. All that remains is her abandoned car parked in the middle of a field.
Then, “when Angela returns to their North Dublin estate the following evening without explanation, it becomes clear to Char and her grandmother, Rita, that something is amiss.” Angela looks and sounds the same, “but her behavior has become erratic and frightening–as if she has been replaced by a malevolent force.”
As Halloween approaches, Char must “unearth the dark secrets of her family in order to uncover the truth behind her mother’s disappearance and save her–even if it means potentially losing her forever.”
