Fans will have to wait another year to visit the updated The Haunted Mansion.
Disney’s remake of 2003’s The Haunted Mansion will land in theaters March 10, 2023, a date the studio had on hold for an untitled event movie, according to Deadline.
The much-anticipated film based on the famed Disneyland theme park ride is directed by Justin Simien from a screenplay by Katie Dippold, and boasts the star-studied cast of Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Danny DeVito and LaKeith Stanfield.
Few specifics on the storyline are known, but the reboot reportedly will follow a mother and son “who come across a mansion that is more than it seems, while being orbited by characters key to undressing a spooky mystery,” according to the logline.
The film–shooting in New Orleans and Atlanta–is described as a “completely different take” on the popular theme ride “that stands on its own.” The mansion is expected to be haunted by such luminaries as Madame Leota, the skeletal Bride and the Hatbox Ghost.
The original The Haunted Mansion–starring Eddie Murphy and Terence Stamp–was not received well by critics, but still managed to rake in $182 million worldwide on a $90-million budget.
