Welcome to the Haunted Mansion–the ghosts have been waiting for you.
Disney’s remake of the Eddie Murphy-led 2003 feature is less than a year away from landing in theaters, and this week, the film’s official logo and storyline were revealed. Check out the spooky logo–courtesy of screenrant.com–above.
Haunted Mansion–directed by Justin Simien (Dear White People) from a screenplay by Katie Dippold (2016’s Ghostbusters)–will follow single mother Gabbie (Rosario Dawson), who moves into “a mysteriously affordable mansion in New Orleans with her son (Chase Dillon) while looking for a new life,” according to the synopsis.
After discovering the mansion is already occupied by ghosts (naturally), she “enlists the help of a priest (Owen Wilson) who, in turn, spins the exorcism into a wild adventure.”
They then turn to “a widowed scientist-turned-paranormal expert (LaKeith Stanfield), a psychic from the French Quarter (Tiffany Haddish) and a crotchety historian (Danny DeVito) for help.”
The remake–slated for theatrical release March 10, 2023–is filming in New Orleans and Atlanta, and is described as a “completely different take” on the popular theme ride “that stands on its own.” Fans can expect to see the likes of Madame Leota, the skeletal Bride and the Hatbox Ghost.
The original The Haunted Mansion–starting Murphy and Terence Stamp–was panned by most critics, but still earned $182 million worldwide on a $90-million budget.
