Demi Moore is apparently looking to expand her cinematic repertoire into the horror genre.
Moore this week was announced as one of the female leads for The Substance, a new genre entry from Coralie Fargeat, the French filmmaker behind the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival hit Revenge, according to a report on Deadline.
Margaret Qualley–most recently seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood–will co-star alongside Moore. Qualley also has appeared in HBO’s The Leftovers (2014-2017), Death Note (2017) and Netflix’ Maid (2021).
Very little is known about The Substance at this time–it’s described as an “explosive feminist take on body horror”–but it will reportedly start shooting in Paris in May.
Fargeat will also write and produce the movie–from Universal Pictures and Working Title Films–along with Working Title partners Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.
Moore–nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe Awards–had her breakthrough role in Ghost (1990), and continued her success with A Few Good Men (1992), Indecent Proposal (1993) and Disclosure (1994).
