DC Moving Forward With New ‘Swamp Thing’ Horror Feature

Swamp Thing will shamble again.

James Gunn and Peter Safran–the new duo-in-charge of the cinematic side of DC Comics–this week announced a new round of films slated to hit the big screen sometime between 2025 and 2027–and one of them will feature Swamp Thing, according to a report on Deadline.

The Swamp Thing feature from this new venture–entitled Chapter One, Gods and Monsters–will delve into “the dark origins of Swamp Thing,” according to the studio, with other DC characters joining in the action. Gunn described this as “a much more horrific film–but we’ll still have Swamp Thing interact with other characters.”

The muck-encrusted character has, of course, already graced the big screen (back in 1982), as well as appearing in TV series.

The DC Comics Swamp Thing character–created by the legendary writer/artist team of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson–debuted in the horror anthology series House of Secrets No. 92 way back in 1971, before earning his own solo series.

The character–described as an “anthropomorphic mass of vegetable matter”–fights to protect his swamp home, the environment and humanity from supernatural threats of all shapes and sizes.
