Dark Horse Comics Signs Exclusive ‘First Look’ Deal with Netflix

According to the official Dark Horse Comics press release, the innovative comic publisher has just signed an exclusive agreement with Netflix, giving the streaming giant “…a first look at its IP for both film and TV and has started exploring future projects.

In recent history, Netflix and Dark Horse collaborated on the adaptation of Gabriel Ba and Gerard Way’s The Umbrella Academy, (which was recently renewed for a second season) as well as Jonas Åkerlund’s webcomic-turned-graphic novel-turned-feature-film Polar.

Mike Richardson, Dark Horse Entertainment’s President and Founder, stated that”We are very excited about this new arrangement with the talented people at Netflix.  We have strong creative relationships as well as a large content library to work with and, as we have seen with our recent projects, Netflix is the perfect partner to bring our stories to fans around the world.”

Keith Goldberg, Senior Vice President of Dark Horse Entertainment, highlighted the fact that the previous Netflix programs “… ha(ve) pushed our content out into the world and allowed it to spread in a way that we’ve never experienced before, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring a whole new slate of movies and shows to their world-wide audience.

Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix, teased a broader focus in the future, promising to branch “… into horror, fantasy and family entertainment — that we think our members will love.”

Stay tuned for more details about this deal and upcoming adaptations of Dark Horse’s horror material.
