‘Dark Harvest’–James Caan’s Final Film–Debuts Next Year

Sonny is going out in another blaze of glory.

Creature feature Dark Harvest is the last film completed by James Caan–immortalized as Sonny Corleone in the Oscar-winning The Godfather–and Variety this week reported the movie will hit theaters late next year. Caan’s scenes were shot before his passing this past summer, and producers will complete the final scenes in January.

The film was directed by Andrew Dymond and Andre Gordon from a screenplay by Rich Manley, who also stars with Caan.

Dark Harvest follows a young Southern deputy who returns to his childhood home “to investigate a dark mystery surrounding the town and its sheriff,” according to the synopsis.

As local residents begin to go missing, “appearances from strange government men in black suits and a bizarre corn crop experiment has the town in a hush–and the deputy takes on the task of getting to the bottom of the mystery.”

Producer Michael Slifkin called Caan–who passed away in July at age 82 following a heart attack–“a legend of our industry and one of the greatest to ever grace the screen. We are honored to help complete this film and brings it to his fans.”
