Dan Stevens is one actor who’s really gonna have to look up to his co-stars.
Stevens–perhaps best known for his starring role in 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and in Legion on FX—this week became the first “human” lead in the planned sequel to last year’s Godzilla vs. Kong blockbuster, according to a report in Deadline.
Stevens’ role in the next entry in the Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse franchise has not yet been announced.
Stevens will reunite with director Adam Wingard, who is returning to helm the sequel. The pair worked together on 2014’s horror thriller The Guest, which saw Stevens play U.S. solider David Collins, who unexpectedly visits a family, introducing himself as a friend of their son who had died in combat. After staying a couple of days, a series of deaths occur and the family’s daughter suspects Collins may be involved.
Plot details on Godzilla vs. Kong 2 (if that is the title) have been hard to come by–as one might expect–but it must be assumed the two behemoths will square off once again somewhere, somehow–most likely with the fate of the planet in the balance. It’s just what they do.
The sequel–which reportedly is under the working title of Son of Kong–is expected to start shooting sometime this year in Queensland, Australia–specifically along the Gold Coast and the southeast potion of the continent.
The 2021 Battle of the Century was a monstrous success, becoming the second film of the pandemic era to break the $100-million mark at the domestic box office on its way to an impressive $468-million tally worldwide.
