Damien Leone Teases Possible ‘Terrifier’ Film Franchise

How much blood can Art the Clown spill?

Damien Leone–the filmmaker behind the slasher hit Terrifier 2–has his eyes on the future. And that future may hold another one (or two) installments in the horror franchise.

Terrifier 2–the sequel to the 2016 original–hit the big screen Oct. 6 and is still posting impressive domestic box office numbers. That success has encouraged Leone to think big. During an interview with Variety, the director admitted, “I had a Part 3 in mind when writing Part 2. I pretty much have the entire treatment ready for Part 3, but it’s getting so big that it could potentially split into Part 4. So, we’ll see.”

Leone is approaching this potential franchise with care, though. “My fear is that eventually the well is gonna run dry,” he said. “We’re gonna wind up jumping the shark. There will be nothing left to say with this character.”

That problem happens with some horror franchises, he added. “I’ve watched all these Part 10s and Part 13s, but sometimes that could really ruin the entire franchise,” Leone said. “For them to peter out or not have a satisfying arc could be devastating to the overall franchise. I want to avoid that.”

Terrifier 2 sees David Howard Thornton reprise his Art the Clown role, joined by Lauren LaVera, Elliott Fullam, Kalley Hyman, Amelie McLain, Charlie McElveen, Casey Hartnett, Felissa Rose, Tamara Glynn, Samantha Scaffidi, Griffin Santopietro and pro wrestling legend Chris Jericho.

In the sequel, Art returns to Miles County–after being resurrected by a sinister entity–in order to hunt down and destroy a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night, according to the synopsis. As the body count rises, “the siblings fight to stay alive, while uncovering the true nature of Art’s evil intent.”
