Damien Leone: More Horror, Less Fantasy Coming In ‘Terrifier 3’

Can Art the Clown get any bloodier?

Terrifier 3–the next chapter in the uber-bloody slasher franchise–will start production later this year, and is now expected to release in the fall of next year, according to a report in Variety.

The feature–from returning writer/director Damien Leone and producer Phil Falcone–stars David Howard Thornton (reprising his Art the Clown role) and Lauren LaVera (returning as Sienna).

And Leone–during a recent interview with Variety–laid out how he’s approaching this three-peat. In Terrifier 2, Leone said he wanted to have “a Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors vibe to it–a supernatural and fantasy element.”

But, he added, “the biggest mistake I could do now is double-down on that fantasy aspect. Let’s go back to the original Nightmare. I want this to be the scariest one of the trilogy. This one will hopefully be the darkest. I want the audience to not be comfortable with Art the Clown. I want them to be really scared of him again.”

Terrifier 2 follows Art the Clown who–after being resurrected by a sinister entity–returns to Miles County, where he targets a teenage girl and her kid brother on Halloween night. A box office success, this film earned $15 million globally on a budget of just $250,000.
