Today at the Television Critics Association panel for The Alienist, series lead Dakota Fanning and other cast members had a chance to talk about the show and if we can expect to see more of the series, according to a report on Deadline.
In speaking of her character this season, Fanning said “I think we see even more of that power that she has discovered within herself in this new season,” she said. “It’s not always easy to do the right thing and to speak up for those who can’t use their voice. Sara uses her privilege to do that. That’s such a core value of who Sara is. I am very proud to play a character like that and learn to continue to implement that in my real life.”
In addition to Fanning, The Alienist stars Daniel Bruhl, Luke Evans, Brian Geraghty, Robert Ray Wisdom, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear and Melanie Field.
The initial season is set in 1896 and follows Sara Howard (Fanning), Laszlo Kreizler (Bruhl), John Moore (Evans) and Theodore Roosevelt (Geraghty) as they investigate a serial killer in New York City.
The second season of the series takes place one year later and follows Sara who has opened her private detective agency. She, Kreizler and Moore team up to find the Spanish consul’s kidnapped infant daughter. Their investigation puts them on a path of yet another deadly killer.
When asked about the possibility of a third season showrunner Stuart Carolan said “We need to wait for Caleb Carr to write a third book, my understanding is that he is writing a third book so you just have to wait and see.”
