This girl just wants to have fun–with a side of horror.

Grammy, Tony and Emmy Award winner Cyndi Lauper is channeling her scary side with a recurring guest role on the Amazon Prime Video series The Horror of Dolores Roach, according to Variety.

In the eight-episode series–adapted by Blumhouse Television from the Gimlet podcast by Aaron Mark–Lauper will play Ruthie, a Broadway theater usher “who moonlights as a private investigator and stirs up trouble for Dolores Roach.”

The series stars Justina Machado as Roach, along with Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, K. Todd Freeman, Marc Maron, Jean Yoon, Judy Reyes and Jeffrey Self.

In the show, “Magic Hands” Dolores Roach returns to her Washington Heights neighborhood after a 16-year stint in prison. She reunites with her old stoner buddy Luis, who gives her a place to stay and lets her give massages for cash in the basement.

But this stable life becomes threatened, and Dolores is driven to “shocking extremes to survive,” according to the synopsis. Dolores and Luis become “dangerously symbiotic, and Luis must unleash his own peculiar predilections.”

Mark–who wrote the script for the pilot–serves as showrunner along with Dara Resnik. Roxann Dawson directed the pilot, which is described as a “Sweeney Todd-inspired tale of eat or be eaten.”
